WordCamp Asia Canceled

· Dan Maby · 1 min read

The first WordCamp Asia, which was set to happen later this month, has been canceled. The announcement (opens in a new tab) post cites the concerns around COVID-19, more commonly known as “Coronavirus.”

Organizers will refund all tickets purchased, and work with hotels to ensure full refunds for anyone who booked. The team also provided a flight cancellation fee waiver letter (opens in a new tab) community members can use to try to get refunds from airlines.

Wordfence created a fund for those hurting from the financial implications for this announcement. The company will give out $200 per person on a first come first serve basis. Check out their website to learn more (opens in a new tab).

Unfortunately, at this time, the team won’t be putting on an online event and will instead focus on helping participants receive travel refunds. There aren’t concrete plans for next year’s event but it will be early 2021. Follow WordCamp Asia (opens in a new tab) on Twitter for any updates.

This decision was not taken lightly, and our hearts go out to the organizers. Please send them support while they figure out next steps.
